Grinding, Additive
ELB-Schliff offers a hybrid version of its continuous-dress
creep-feed MillGrind machine equipped with Ambit
laser cladding from Hybrid Manufacturing Technology.
Designed for aerospace applications, the hybrid machine
integrates surface and profle grinding with additive
manufacturing and
milling capability.
According to develop-
ers, the multitasking
machine boosts fexibil-
ity by reducing setups
needed to produce
fnished parts, saving
time and money, and
enables precision-
ground surface fnishes
in-process on parts
made via additive
manufacturing.
The MillGrind
runs conventional
corundum abrasives
with superabrasive
capability and has an
XYZ resolution of 0.1
micron (0.0001 mm).
Change-over between
both grinding wheels
and dressing tools
can be done within
seconds. In addition,
the 8,000-rpm spindle
can be automatically
loaded with milling
cutters for drilling, tap-
ping and other milling
operations as needed.
