An updated enclosure encases the machine, filters and closed-loop powder sieving station. Its 280 × 280 × 365-mm build platform, bidirectional powder recoater and open system architecture combine with an updated filter module to reduce costs, increase runtime and lessen process waste. The process waste can be disposed of as a dry mixture while the filter can be re- used continuously. According to the company, the printer builds upon the shielding gas flow of the previous model to achieve homogeneous mechanical properties and keep the process chamber clean. SLM Solutions NA Inc. | West, Level 3, Booth 432304 3D Printer Processes MIM Powders, Decreases Costs ExOne has developed the Innovent+ 3D printing machine to process metal injection molding (MIM) powders. According to the company, the advantage of this machine is that MIM powders are less expensive than those used in many other metal 3D printing processes. Additionally, because hundreds of MIM powders exist, users will have easy access to necessary material. The machine features an ultrasonic recoater designed for fine powder material flexibility and ease of use. The finer powders improve feature resolution and surface finish. A light-based UV curing process offers reduced production time compared to heat-based curing processes. The platform is said to deliver Six Sigma repeatability (Cpk > 2) across all materials, and data on Figure 4 Production show part print speeds ranging to 100 mm/hr. The Figure 4 platform uses a process that 3D Systems describes as "high- speed digital molding," providing manufacturers the accuracy, reliability, repeatability and uptime of traditional molding but producing parts without the costs and time-consuming aspects of tooling. Digital molding is said to be com- pletely scalable, and because of the high surface quality available with Figure 4, excels at fine part texturing. In comparison to conventional manufacturing, part texturing is applicable to any surface, regardless of shape. In addition to supporting long- and short-run batches, high-speed digital molding accommodates the production of different parts in the same batch. This enables manufacturers to iterate a design or manufacture end-use parts with- out regard to a minimum order quantity. Figure 4 Production is compatible with more than 30 3D Systems materials, including high-speed, rigid, elasto- meric and castable green materials, as well as NextDent biocompatible dental resins and ortho- dontic tooling resins.
