SUPPLIER SHOWCASE 32 NOVEMBER 2017 Additive Manufacturing Trumpf is an independent family-owned company that was founded in 1923 as a series of mechanical workshops. Since 1923, Trumpf has grown to be a world market and technology leader in fabricating machinery and industrial lasers for flexible sheet metal processing. Trumpf Inc. is the largest subsidiary of the Trumpf Group and is dedicated to serving the U.S., Canadian and Mexican markets. Trumpf is driving the digital networking of the manufacturing industry through consultation, platform products and software products. Trumpf Inc. has expanded its technology and product range in additive manufacturing and is the world's only manufacturer to have all the pertinent laser technologies for industrial 3D printing. Laser metal fusion systems create the component, layer by layer, from metal powders with grain sizes as small as 20 microns. This technology is ideal for any parts with a complex geometry, such as those with internal channels and hollow spaces, and for manufacturing individual parts of short production runs economically. During the build, a layer of metal powder is applied to a substrate plate and then a 200-W laser is used to fuse the cross-section of the geometry to the plate. After the exposure, the plate is lowered and the next layer of powder is applied. This procedure is repeated until the part is finished. The system offers all the components integrated into a single compact housing, including the laser, optics, process enclosure, filter unit and control cabinet. Trumpf 's TruPrint 1000 offers all the benefits of additive manufacturing including simple and intuitive operation, high process speed, and individual adaptation.
