Arconic and Airbus Team Up to
Advance AM for Aerospace
In a multi-year cooperative research
agreement, Arconic and Airbus will
develop customized processes
and parameters to produce and
qualify large, structural 3D-printed
aerospace components, such as
pylon spars and rib structures. The
deal combines Arconic's expertise
in metal additive manufacturing and
metallurgy with Airbus's design and
qualification capabilities, building
on its experience with regulatory
agencies for certification.

Farsoon Technologies Opens
North American Offices
Farsoon Americas has begun direct
sales, training, integration and
support operations in North Amer-
ica with the opening of its office in
Round Rock, Texas. The company
plans to introduce manufacturing,
R&D; and advanced solution cen-
ters in North America over the next
few years.

Desktop Metal Accepts
International Pre-Orders
Desktop Metal is accepting inter-
national pre-orders of its Studio
System 3D-printing platform from
companies throughout Europe,
Asia-Pacific, Canada and Mexico
to be delivered beginning mid-2108.
The BMW Group will be the first in-
ternational early partner to receive
a Studio System.

LPW Moves U.S. Operation
LPW Technology has relocated its
U.S. operation to a larger facility
in Imperial, Pennsylvania, near
Pittsburgh. The 12,000-square-
foot (1,115-square-meter) factory
houses powder inventory, a larger
laboratory with a scanning electron
microscope (SEM), and two parallel
reconditioning lines of sieves,
blenders and packaging equipment
to process powders and recertify
them to the original specifications.

NASA Tests Bimetallic Rocket
Engine Prototype
Engineers at NASA's Marshall
Space Flight tested NASA's first
3D-printed rocket engine prototype
part made of two different metal
alloys. A copper alloy and Inconel
were joined together using blown
powder laser deposition on a DMG
MORI hybrid machine. Engineers
low-pressure hot-fire tested the
prototype more than 30 times to
demonstrate its functionality. The
prototype, built by a commercial
vendor, was then cut up by Uni-
versity of Alabama in Huntsville
researchers who examined images
of the bimetallic interface through
a microscope. The results showed
the two metals had inter-diffused,
helping create a strong bond.

3D Printers
Rize Inc. has announced that
Cimquest Inc. is now an authorized
reseller of its additive manufactur-
ing product line, including the Rize
One 3D printer The Rize One uses
Augmented Polymer Deposition
(APD). The process simultaneously
extrudes thermoplastic while jetting
functional inks that change the
material properties to allow for easy
support removal and detailed text
and images in and on parts.

PADT Joins Carbon's
Production Partner Program
Phoenix Analysis and Design
Technologies (PADT) has joined
Carbon's production partner
program to offer production part
manufacturing to the southwestern
United States. Three Carbon M2
printers at its headquarters in Tem-
pe, Arizona, enable PADT to print
plastic components using digital
light synthesis (DLS).

SLM Solutions Group AG has
signed a cooperation agreement
with Authentise. The cooperation
aims to integrate real-time pro-
