MARCH 2018 Additive Manufacturing 21 INDUSTRY NEWS CATEGORY: I IMTS 2018 21 Sometimes I try to imagine what life was like before ushering in an even-numbered year…meaning, the start of an IMTS year. I realize I can't! For me it was a lifetime ago and as we move into another even-numbered year (another show year), I can't help feeling the excitement and anticipation that our exhibitors, visitors, partners and staff all share. It won't be long until we will begin moving into McCormick Place, opening the doors for IMTS 2018. In a world of negatives, everyone involved in IMTS is focused on positives: marketing new products, finding new solutions, building better business relationships and just plain enjoying a vibrant dynamic in the midst of rapid and exhila- rating changes for the manufacturing industry. Those changes will be on full display at IMTS 2018. In addition to the more than 1,200 exhibitors showing the newest innovations, AMT's Emerging Technology Center (ETC) will be presenting a deep dive into the digital transformation of manufacturing, featuring AMT's own contribution to the industry via MTConnect, and for the first time, an IMTS version of our partner SME's Smart Hub. The digital manu- facturing theme will carry through the displays by our media partners GIE and Gardner Business Media and will be connect- ed to the ETC. All of this exciting technology will be located in the lobby area of the North Building at McCormick Place. Also for the first time, the Emerging Technology Center will have a satellite location in the lobby of the West Building within the new, expanded Additive Pavilion and feature a display on some of the latest advances in additive manufacturing technology. Finally, for those of you who remember the IMTS of years past, an old friend returns with the re-opening of the E Hall. This lower level hall, located in the East Building directly in front of the registration area, will host the Machine Compo- nents, Cleaning and Environmental Pavilion, as well as IMTS partner Hannover Messe's exhibits. The countdown has begun! Happy Show Year! By Peter Eelman Vice President – Exhibitions & Business Development AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology
