8 MAY 2018 Additive Manufacturing NEWS Stephanie Hendrixson / Senior Editor performance for the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR). ONR's goal is to use Senvol's soft- ware to help develop statistically substantiated material properties, in hopes of reducing conventional ma- terial characterization and testing. The software in development is powered by an algorithm that quantifies the relationships be- tween process parameters, process signatures, material properties and mechanical performance. The algorithm is AM material, machine, and process agnostic, and will be commercially available, Senvol says. Rapid + TCT Adds Events SME and Rapid News Publications Ltd. (owner of the TCT Group), have announced two new events under the Rapid + TCT banner. Rapid + TCT West will take place on the West Coast annually, with the first iteration scheduled for October 9-10, 2019, in Santa Clara, Cali- fornia. The Rapid + TCT Executive Strategy Summit will aim to guide investment decisions, provide in- sight into maximizing ROI and keep executives on the same page as their workforce, organizers say. The first edition takes place October 17- 18, 2018, in Palm Desert, California. Oerlikon, Boeing Partner to Standardize Metal AM Boeing and Oerlikon have signed a five-year collaboration agreement to develop standard materials and processes for metal-based AM. The research will initially focus on industrializing titanium powder-bed fusion, ensuring parts made with the process meet the flight re- quirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Depart- ment of Defense (DOD). / AMUG Conference Sees Record Attendance The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) Conference this year celebrated the event's 30th anniversary. Held in Saint Louis, the 2018 conference drew a record 1,800 attendees, up about 13 per- cent from 2017. Visit amug2018 for photos and more.
